TAMS E2085 SRM/UX Server Software

LAN Diagram

SRM on an HP-UX Platform:

This latest release of SRM/UX expands its functionality and the operating systems supported (support for Red Hat Linux added), while continuing to offer all the functionality of SRM and previous versions of SRM/UX.

With the addition of a DLL available through Tech Soft (product code: E2087), HTBasic for Windows 6.1 or later can now be a full SRM/UX client. This allows an HP 200/300 with BASIC/WS that was connected to an SRM/UX system to be replaced by a PC and HTBasic. SRM/UX networking now allows files to be shared between HTBasic on a PC and HP computers with HP-BASIC/WS or workstations with HP-BASIC-UX/300 or HP-BASIC-UX/700. Now in an SRM/UX network an old series 200/300 computer can be replaced with a PC running HTBasic without any other changes being made to the way the system operates. SRM/UX provides all of the networking management for the TransEra PC client. This new capability dramatically increases the ability of HTBasic to be a direct replacement for HP-BASIC/WS.

SRM/UX provides networking connectivity for HP Series 200/300 BASIC and Pascal workstations. It provides file and peripheral sharing, and in addition, the server can act as a gateway to provide access to the enterprise network. The HP-UX host can be either a HP Series 300 or Series 700 running HP-UX or a PC running Red Hat Linux and does not need to be a dedicated SRM/UX server. It can also be utilized for other computing tasks.

SRM/UX is supported on almost all HP-UX Workstations or Servers. (Series 300, 400, 700, 800, Series B, C, J & K) and on PCs running Red Hat Linux (Release 7.3 and 8.0). All computers support LAN connections, and Series 300 can support LAN and SRM wire (SRM wire is not supported on Linux). SRM gateways can be established to connect SRM systems to SRM/UX networks. The newest release is supported on HP-UX 9.x / 10.2 / 11.0 / Red Hat Linux 7.3, and 8.0. (Previous versions of SRM/UX are available for older versions of HP-UX) E2085J is available on CD ROM. Contact Tech Soft for additional configuration details.

SRM/UX Features

  • Transparent file sharing for your BASIC and PASCAL Workstations. No special commands are necessary. You use the same commands for accessing files, whether on the SRM/UX server or on a local disk drive. HP BASIC, BASIC/WS and HP BASIC/UX can share BDAT, ASCII, and PROG files. You can manage shared data files centrally, reducing revision control problems.
  • The option of diskless booting of HP BASIC or PASCAL Workstation clients from a central SRM/UX server.
  • Ability to integrate 200 and 300 series HP Workstations and Measurement Coprocessors into standard LAN systems. Transparent sharing of files among themselves and with the server, plus the ability to share data with other computers on the network which communicate via standard LAN services.
  • Peripheral sharing. Printers and plotters connected to the SRM/UX server are available to the client computers through normal HP BASIC/WS commands HP BASIC/WS and Pascal/WS client connections over SRM or LAN interfaces.
  • Easy configuration. Once the SRM/UX system is running, clients can be added or removed without shutting the system down.
  • System Administration of SRM/UX is similar to that of other HP-UX/ Linux applications, such as the line printer spooler. Backups and system administration tasks can be done centrally via regular HP-UX housekeeping procedures.
  • Connect PC’s as clients to SRM/UX with PC-NFS software. See TAMS Network in a Box for more product information.
  • BASIC/UX systems can be full SRM/UX clients for seamless integration of BASIC Workstations and HP-UX systems with BASIC/UX.
  • PC’s running BASIC for Windows or HTBasic as full SRM/UX clients, with full SRM/UX file management. (This capability has been added to this release of SRM/UX and support for it within BASIC is available in the HTBasic Legacy release of BASIC for Windows.)
  • Easy configuration with automatic IP Address lookup for LAN clients and symbolic User and Group ID’s in all fields in the SRM/UX configuration file.
  • Complete software compatibility with most existing SRM applications.
